Name: Cody Hill
Role: Senior Software Developer
Why do you love what you do?
I love solving problems. Software development presents a unique opportunity in that every day you are solving a problem. It may be similar to a problem that you have previously solved but rarely is the solution the exact same.
Anything Italian, Spaghetti, Fettucini, Cavatini, Lasagna, Tortellini it’s all great!
What is an accomplishment you’re proud of?
As any parent would say I’m sure, the thing that I’m most proud of is being a father to my two children. It’s a true joy to watch them grow and learn.
Anything else we should know?
When my wife and I were shopping for our first home we had an appointment with a Mortgage Broker to get pre- approved and then later in the day an appointment with our Real Estate Agent to look at a home. We also had an appointment in the morning with the doctor as we had recently found out we were expecting. This was our first ultrasound appointment and the doctor informed us that we were having twins. My jaw dropped and I just sat there for approximately five minutes just in shock.
I’ve recently started collecting baseball and football cards again as a hobby. I went so far as to find a local card shop (shout out to The Rookie) and join some social media communities for buying, selling and just sharing your collection.
How did you get started down the path to becoming a developer?
I went to college with the intention of studying accounting. As I got into the course work I realized that it really wasn’t something that I had a passion for and I didn’t enjoy accounting all that much so I took an inventory of some of my passions and decided to switch majors and study Management Information Systems instead. I fell in love with writing software and the rest is history as they say.
What made you decide to join We Write Code?
Ultimately it was the culture at We Write Code. Sometimes this job can be stressful and it makes it easier knowing that you truly enjoy working with your teammates and achieving your goals together.
How do you see your past experiences at other organizations helping you in your new position at We Write Code?
I have a background in the consulting world and have come to really enjoy crafting solutions to fit a client’s specific needs. I’ve seen the highs and the lows of the project life cycle and can help keep a project moving in the right direction.
What hobbies and activities do you do outside of work?
I’m a pretty big sports fan, I like to keep track of my favorite teams and play fantasy sports with friends. I’m also a beer enthusiast and love to try all different kinds of new beers. Occasionally you might find me on a golf course.
